A Trekking Experiment (in Kodachadri)...

Trekking is an adventure for those who admire the nature's enigma.Kodachadri hills is one such place inhabited by tall plants, healthy air, beautiful birds, fantastic fauna, and streaming waterfalls minus the modern pollution.
A place to enjoy nature's beauty at its best with Hidlumane cascaded falls, Arshinigundi falls, Panoramic mountains, golden sunset and sunrise amidst the view of Arabian sea.

After ground research and rounds of enquiries,we decided to take a guide and trek up through the route with  Hidlumane Falls ( a cascade of 7 waterfalls) and get down by jeep. The onward journey time is approx 5Hrs. One extremely useful thing i had read was "When you are lost in a place or wanted to reach the source of water - Follow the streams".

Cautions were challenges fancied by all. So,except my grandmother and grandfather all were set to walk across and atop to the hills. Jeep took us to a point (a house with shops) from where we stepped down to follow the stream. As we did so, we reached the first of the cascades. From here its all about climbing the falls and steep paths holding the strong roots and branches of the evergreen forest. The path to the waterfalls was well camouflaged by the shades of trees.
We weren't struck by tiredness, though it was quite a tricky route to climb. My mother @ 50yrs, was at her best and to every one's surprise lead the trek sometimes along with, and sometimes ahead of the guide.
"An adventure is never an adventure when it's happening".The whole place had engulfed us with its mystic and tranquil milieu. When we reached the top most falls, sounds of the water reverberated our ears and its pure whiteness took us to a world of fairyland driving us mad. We played and played, and bathed in the water for some time and started afresh to continue through the forest. After little walks and climbs, our body demanded for the much wanted energy. The small amount of water we carried was all over by the time, it was then, the "Glucose" came to our help.
Forests are done; from thereon, it was all open mountain with no shades, slippery, muddy, some narrow risky paths. Thirsty throats and some aching legs manged to climb as from a certain point onwards there is no turning back. That is the place that must be reached and we kept moving ahead. When we stopped to turn back, the view was just unexplainable, the vast panorama was simply breath taking. We took few snaps there and crossed another mountain, climbed another to reach a muddy road. No one was ready to walk furthur on the muddy road and so we called our jeep and went to the PWD guest house where we had our meals.
Overnight stay was the initial plan but we cancelled it as we had to leave early. So, just to satisfy our enthralling hearts, we stayed at the campsite for some time in the evening and descended in the jeep.

At the end of all our exploring we arrived where we started to know the place for the first time.

The Essentials...
Good pair of shoes or floaters (with acceptable grip), one set of clothing, a bottle of water (1L preferable),hats/goggles ( if summer), plain glucose ( a must), medicine kit
In Winters, it is advisable to cover your feet (as there are more leeches) and salt for first aid

A Vacation with Family...

Before i begin with the trekking experience, thought  a prequel would fit in. And so here it is....

The summer was at its peak and the scrotching sun had mesmerised our minds craving for a cool break. So, we decided to beat the heat togeather and escape from our lovely(hot) chennai weather. What was then planned, was ulimately a family vacation.

The freedom of travel opens the mind to unlimited possibilities...Well, choices were plenty and picking up the - one right place was a challenge. Restrictions and instructions from each member of the family followed in succession, as one claimed "No,not the place i have seen already", the other wanted "water ,water and more water" , oldies wanted "temples" and the energetics "adventures"..
Thanks to google, blogs and a distant friend of my aunt (from Mysore) -for they helped us nail down a plan enrouted - Kuke Subramaniyan (on Day1),Dharmasthala and Udupi( on Day2) , Kollur Mookambikai and the Kodachadri trek ( on Day 3 & 4).
We were around 13 members including my grandfather, grandmother, aunts, uncles and teens... All packed up and patched up for the trip. We booked an overnight train to Mysore wanting to rest before we begin exploring, but the eagerness to do the trip kept us otherways. Finally the next morning we reached Mysore and a mini Van was waiting to take us to the aunt's home. After a simulating elachi tea, there was a surprise for us.Guess what, we were told we can bath in a flowing river... (huh! - is not the excalimation expected...Only Chennaietes knows how good it feels, unlike the daily crow bath (Kakka kuliyal in tamil) ). After the refreshing bath, our stomachs grumbled and the hot bisibellabath tasted much delicious.
We then packed our bags and went as per the plan to the pilgrims - long queues, calm darshans, prasadams, night stay - all as expected and oldies are now happy (esp. My grandfather)..
So far so good and now comes the real adventure !!! All backpacked, refueled and acquisitive to clinch the peak and to feel that we are no tourists but travellers as "Tourists see the world, travelers experience it ", but then it was an real experiment, as people from age 12 to 50 were going to trek.
Unusual though, still proving a point that age is no barrier when strong hearts has the strongest will power to move ahead.

Procedure for the successful experiment will be shared in the following blog...

Well, little techy as i am, i would love to share some tit bits and cool solutions in my area of expertise - the BI intelligence.

Thus, here i am, inspired by my friends and the bloggers around, start my jouney as a blogger and - 'The journey begins' here!!!

Coming up next...

As said, "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page", i wish to open up a new page on my trekking experience to a panoramic landscape - The Kodachadri hills..
